Brand 54: 54th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper opens Saturday, June 6, 7-9pm at The Brand Library. For this 54th edition of the Brand’s signature summer exhibition, juror Tracy Bartley assembled 100 artworks that deliberately interrogate the physical versatility of paper itself. The cohort nurtures a dense ecosystem where the material itself is not a passive substrate, but is encouraged to show off in all its elastic, conceptually malleable, architectural glory across an eclectic landscape where painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture converse with photographic portraiture, hand-woven fiber topographies, and gestural collage. By prioritizing the pluripotentiality of the medium over a single thematic or studio-convention orthodoxy, the selections expand the universe of “works on paper” toward inventive, multidirectional horizons.
