Tim Hawkinson: Self-Portraits opens Wednesday, June 19, 6-8pm at Timothy Hawkinson Gallery. A cheeky show born of a puntastic idea, a celebration of coincidental nomenclature amplified by the sometimes suspect dynamics of portraiture and self-portraiture, and a long-awaited solo show from an artist we haven’t gotten nearly enough of lately—this show is all of the above and also a collection of very finely made, alternately intimate, unsettling, abject, and eccentrically joyful oil paintings from the last two years (largely the last five months). In scenes from the theatrical to the hyperstylized, familiar and surreal, Tim Hawkinson (the artist) expresses a sudden but abiding interest in figuring out which version of himself is the real one. And don’t miss the gallery’s Tim Hawkinson look-alike party on Saturday, June 29th, 5-8pm. Which Tim Hawksinson you cosplay as is totally up to you.
