Seonna Hong, Love Letter to Los Angeles, 2025 (Subliminal Projects)
This week we’re covering ongoing fire relief efforts, the return of Frieze Los Angeles, the inauguration of Post-Fair, and a synced-up Other Art Fair—and remember, following opening night parties Wednesday, Felix and the LA Art Show are open through this weekend as well!. And the gravitational pull of the fairs has dragged seemingly all the city’s galleries into it too, whether they’re in on them or not. Such hot spots include East Side Gallery Day, Bendix Gallery Night, Bergamot Station afternoon, plus exhibitions and programs at 18th Street, Subliminal Projects, The LINE Hotel, NeueHouse Venice Beach, Lowell Ryan Projects, and AF Projects. And for those rare quiet moments at home, the best movie about a cat I’ve ever seen. And a special thank you to everyone who came out to last week’s subscriber salon! Such a lovely time was had, and yes, there will be more!

Shepard Fairey, The Big Sur Coast, 2025 (Subliminal Projects)
Visual Language: Vistas opens Saturday, February 22, 7-10pm at Subliminal Projects. The gallery’s ongoing curatorial collaboration with UK-based Coates & Scarry turns its multifaceted lens on the iconic idiom of the California landscape—an emblem of majestic cinematic and sacred natural beauty, a contested site of resource scarcity, a front line in climate chaos and innovation, and in the wake of ongoing recent catastrophe, a landscape badly in need of love and care. Bringing together the work of nearly 25 artists who view California as both home and muse for their varied and eclectic artistic practices, these extraordinary voices dip into the pastoral and poetic, the erased and reemerging, the historical and the avant-garde, the fantastical and ferocious—all in the name of feeling California more deeply. A portion of proceeds supports ongoing fire recovery relief. On view in Echo Park through April 5; subliminalprojects.com. —SND
