Dan Climan: Talking Fondly opens Saturday, April 5, 5-7pm at Good Mother Gallery. A kind of day-in-the-life painting cycle in the form of half-remembered dreams and with the aesthetic nostalgia of circa 1980 childhood, Dan Climan’s new exhibition interrupts the familiar with gestures of weird mystery. A suite of photography-inflected compositions with the low-level uncanniness of things we randomly feel compelled to snap on our phones but can’t remember why, executed in a steady, graphically reductive, crisply cinematic hand is arranged in impressionistically chronological order, dawn to dusk—but can be experienced in any order that the pushed buttons inside your own memories dictate. As well, Climan’s rendering highlights the solid foundation of abstract shape and color from which he parses and builds his views of the world, landscape and still life, both botanical and autobiographical. On view through April 26 in West Adams; goodmothergallery.com. —SND
